Our Mission

Hands symbolizing unity and human rights – The MagkaSama Project
Defending human rights, justice, and freedom of expression by amplifying civil society, and sharing the powerful stories people carry.

We stand with communities and fight for human rights, peace, and the freedom to speak their minds.

We listen to people on the ground, collaborate with civil society and experts, and harness creative activism to build real power together. Justice and free expression aren’t just ideas—they have to be lived out and fiercely protected every single day.

Inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we center people whose voices are pushed aside, silenced, or censored for speaking out about grave facts, wherever they are in the world. We support grassroots movements and stand with communities carrying the heaviest burdens.

Art, expression, and people showing up in civic life aren’t extras. They’re the foundation, where the work truly begins.

Alerting Governments And Institutions

Meetings and advocacy discussions – The MagkaSama Project
We’re teaming up with our partners and field experts to alert our leaders, pressing them to act swiftly and holding them accountable for their commitments.

We bring human rights abuses, including attacks on freedom of expression and closing civic space, directly to governments and international institutions through evidence-based advocacy.

In collaboration with trusted partners, we produce in-depth reports documenting violations, humanitarian needs, and conflict dynamics as they unfold. These findings are shared through briefings, formal submissions, and high-level forums, with clear and practical recommendations for urgent policy action.

Our work does not stop at documentation. Together with our partner organizations, we co-sign joint letters demanding swift responses to these abuses and real steps to stop further harm, particularly any restrictions on free speech and press freedom.

We monitor outcomes closely and speak out when commitments fall short. For us, alerting governments means insisting that promises are met with responsibility, and that power is held to account.

Raising Awareness Through Creative Activism

60 Signers artwork by Max Dana for the UDHR anniversary
In 2008, Max Dana launched the 60 Signers initiative for the UDHR's 60th anniversary, rallying 60 global voices in support of the Every Human Has Rights campaign.

Creative activism lies at the heart of the MagkaSama Project.

We turn to art, storytelling, and open public dialogue to stand up for the right to speak freely, create boldly, question deeply, and dissent without fear.

This way of working draws straight from initiatives like the 60 Signers for the 60th Anniversary, launched by our founder Max Dana to mark the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. That effort brought together major organizations and civil society activists from every continent, all rallying behind and signing the artwork to endorse one simple, powerful truth: human rights belong to everyone, everywhere.

Our documentary screenings carry that spirit forward today, lifting up stories of resistance, resilience, and the raw courage it takes to speak out. By making room for expression, open dialogue, and even dissent, we help turn attention into deeper understanding and deeper understanding into collective action.

Supporting Grassroots NGOs

Partnering with grassroots organizations is essential to our mission..

We work alongside local advocates, including journalists, artists, educators, and community leaders, who defend human rights and freedom of expression in tough, often dangerous environments.

We support their efforts through documentary screenings, public discussions, and digital platforms, connecting local initiatives with wider audiences and allies. Community leaders speak for themselves, shaping conversations that raise awareness and influence policies that directly affect their lives.

These partnerships are built on trust, mutual learning, and genuine respect for local leadership. By standing alongside those on the front lines, we contribute to movements that are resilient, deeply rooted, and truly led from within.

Turning Awareness Into Action

Community rally for human rights – Sama For Human Rights campaign
Stand up for human rights—learn, share, pledge, rally, advocate, and defend rights daily with Sama For Human Rights!

Awareness alone is not enough. Human rights are strengthened through participation, solidarity, and sustained engagement.

Through the Sama For Human Rights campaign, we invite individuals and communities to move from reflection to action by learning, sharing, organizing, and standing up for the rights of others.

Human Rights Week, culminating on December 10, is a key moment for collective action, but our responsibility does not end there. As our founder reminds us, every day should carry this purpose.

By bringing together local knowledge and international solidarity, art and advocacy, expression and participation, we are building a people-powered movement that grows through shared responsibility, everyday engagement, and the courage to stand together.
