Honoring Martin Luther King Jr., 50 years after his death

In 2013 we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington and we had a great online discussion on this occasion. Today marks the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King‘s assassination, commemoration events are taking place across the United States, and organizers expect hundreds of thousands of people to attend events commemorating the assassination.

Marchers are gathered in Washington DC for the ACT to End Racism Rally on the National Mall, and a prayer service will also take place. This morning, Bernice King, Martin Luther King Jr.’s youngest daughter, tweeted several photos of her father on the 50th anniversary of his assassination:

It is an important commemoration, many people are paying tribute on the 50th anniversary of the civil rights icon’s assassination as the black civil rights movement empowered other minorities around the world to campaign for their rights. MKL’s legacy is still relevant, we must honor the legacy of the civil rights activist and keep fighting for justice and peace.
