One Million BonesOne Million Bones, a project of The Art of Revolution, is a large-scale social arts practice which combines education, hands-on art making, and public installations to raise awareness of ongoing genocides and mass atrocities in Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia and Burma.

For the past three years we have been hosting and facilitating educational workshops around the globe allowing students to learn about these ongoing conflicts. During each workshop, we ask participants to create a handcrafted bone, and we are collecting 1,000,000 of them for a culminating three-day installation event on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., June 8-10, 2013. The installation will exist as a collaborative site of conscience to honor victims and survivors, and as a visual petition against ongoing conflicts. One MIllion Bones is a resounding call for much needed and long overdue action.

In the fall of 2011, we partnered with Students Rebuild to expand our educational outreach and on-the- ground impact. Through this partnership, for every bone that is made the Bezos Family Foundation pledged to donate $1 towards CARE’s relief work in Somalia and the Congo – up to $500,000. We are happy to announce that we have met this goal!

Over the last three years, the One Million Bones project has launched several major campaigns, including two 50,000 bone preview installations in Albuquerque, New Mexico and New Orleans, Louisiana. In September, 2011, we launched our Road to Washington Campaign, which produced over 35 installations in 35 state capitals on April 28, 2012…
